Maya and the Three - Surfacing

While at Tangent Animation, I had the pleasure of working on Netflix's Maya and the Three as a Surfacing Artist for around 2 years from April 2019 to late spring 2021. I mostly worked on environments but I also surfaced several props as well as look dev and shader development for various magical items. The entire show was modeled using Blender and rendered in Blender Cycles. We also used Substance Painter and Substance Designer.

This is the bedroom of the main character Maya. It was the first set I worked on in the show. Responsibilities included material/texture creation for walls (including displacement maps), floors, rugs, the bed frame, cloth banners, and paintings.

I had the opportunity to surface most of the main pyramid in the Kingdom of Teca as well as some of the smaller buildings in the city.

I also worked on the Fighting Pit including ground materials and all foliage scattering.

I was in charge of environment surfacing for the Golden Mountains Throne Room including the large puma statues.

In addition to environment surfacing I got to work on a lot of smaller random tasks throughout the show, including the battle-worn facepaint of Maya.
